Press Release - ‘Doing Time’ A Tusker Films Production wins a ‘Tinny’
 
For the second year running Porthcawl based production company Tusker Films has won a ‘Tinny’ Award at the Swansea International Film Festival. This time with the hard hitting social documentary ‘Doing Time.’
 
 ‘Doing Time’ was funded by RCT Youth Offending Service in partnership with Communities First.
Alison Pesticcio the Anti-Social Behaviour Youth Worker for RCT and the driving force behind the project and the film said,
 
“This particular project came about because we wanted to illustrate the work the Youth Offending Service and process of engaging young people into constructive activities
as a diversion from anti-social and offending behaviour”
 
The film shows the ups and downs of a Time Banking project in Maerdy over an 8 month period, and in the year since, the Time Banking project shown in the film has gone from strength to strength.

Welsh Surf Champs launch Eco-Surf Film

British and Welsh surf champions Gwen Spurlock and Beth Mason will launch Wales’ own Eco-Surf movie at Monkey Bar on November 30th.

The film, On the Push, is being made by award-winning filmmakers Anne Gallagher and Helen iles, puts a spotlight on ecological issues around surfing, with particular attention on the way the natural environment is responding to threats posed by Climate Change.

The launch event is part of the 8th annual undercurrents BeyondTV Film Festival in Swansea and is funded by the Arts Council of Wales and The Film Agency in Wales. Undercurrents spokesperson D Murphy said: “After 8 years the BeyondTV Festival has a loyal fanbase, but we’re always trying to reach new audiences. Maybe this year the surfers will come and check out the independent film scene.”

Filmmaker and surfer Anne Gallagher says; “Surfers have a reputation for caring about the environment but we know we could do more.? This film explores the impact of surfing and surfers on the environment and speaks to people who are really making a difference. Come and watch it! It’s inspiring!”

On the Push has already been endorsed by top eco-surf magazine The Surfers Path. Editor Alex Dick-Read said: “It’s the right film at the right time”.

On the Push can be seen at Monkey Bar, High Street, Swansea on Friday November 30th at 9pm. Surf band The Savage Jazz and DJ Vadim top off what looks like being a swell night….

On Wednesday September 5th 2007 a new Welsh Surf Film from Porthcawl based company Tusker Films premiered in Porthcawl's Grand Pavillion. The Off the Lip Film Night was organised by Bridgend Council as part of the Surf Cult Festival.
With over 150 surfers at the screening it was standing room only at the first screening of "Grey Days and Sun Days"
